Justice issues are treated seriously by government, local and national, and the fair was attended and supported by the Mayor of Lambeth, Councillor Irene Kimm, and Streatham's MP, Rt Hon Keith Hill. Scroll down this page to see some photos of their visits and also of the guest speakers. Our government - local and national - is taking the issues seriously, but WE ALL need to keep up the pressure!

The Mayor, Councillor Irene Kimm, toured the stalls and spoke to many of those who had come to the fair. She is here visiting the Traidcraft stall.

Rt Hon Keith Hill, MP for Streatham also spoke with stallholders and many others, and is seen here with the Mayor and
fair organiser Suzanne Maher of Streatham Justice Group.

Speakers
At a brief formal session around 12:30 Suzanne Maher introduced the speakers (seated, from the left) - Sarah de Nordwall, the Mayor and guest speaker
Roger Shorter from Christian Ecology Link. The Mayor spoke of the Council's commitment to promoting Fairtrade and to using
Fairtrade products wherever possible, and commended the way people from many different backgrounds were working together at the fair. Roger Shorter, whose subject
was Climate Change, emphasised that the issue was an urgent one and that it was everyone's responsibility to do all they could. Even small points like not
putting more water in the kettle than was needed when boiling it were important, and he said that our homes were one of the largest causes of energy waste
through poor insulation.

Christian Ecology Link website (www.christian-ecology.org.uk).

Sarah de Nordwall, who was running the poetry workshop at the fair, then recited her poem, "The Wasted Tree". This had a new 'take'
on the story of the Garden of Eden, pointing out that things do not necessarily have to be consumed to be enjoyed - something the serpent, Eve and Adam
clearly missed!

Finally, Keith Hill reminded everyone of the government's concern for justice issues represented at the fair and, taking up the point made by Roger Shorter,
gave his assurance that, as Housing Minister, he would do everything possible to ensure housing is made energy efficient.
