The church has close links with the school which bears its name. Founded in the middle of the 19th century soon after the church itself was opened, the school moved to new premises between Northanger and Buckleigh Roads a few hundred yards to the west of the church in 1977. The leadership body of the church, the Parochial Church Council (PCC), appoints the foundation governors of the school, and the headteacher of the school is ex officio a member of the PCC.
The church and school have occasional joint activities. Many of the children in the congregation are also pupils at the school. The church provides a chaplaincy for school staff and other members of the school community.

Immanuel Youth Centre
Since the 1960s the church has considered it an important part of its mission to serve not only the spiritual but also the mental and physical needs of the young people of the area. An open youth club was started which met for many years in the church hall, but when the school was rebuilt in the 1970s the opportunity was taken to incorporate a purpose built youth centre in the premises.
Several church members serve on the management committee of the youth centre. For many years the centre enjoyed the services of full time leaders funded by the local education authority, but this is no longer possible because of budget restrictions. A number of part time leaders serve the club, many of whom are former members. The Youth Centre is a registered charity, no 272388.
