The service on 31st July 2005 was Revd Wendy Aird's last as Assistant Curate of Immanuel and a good number of members came to the service - and stayed for the party afterwards - to acknowledge and celebrate all that Wendy had done and to say farewell. Previously it had not been possible to say what Wendy would be doing after leaving us, but in the service it was announced that, subject to all legal and other formalities being completed, Wendy would be moving later in the year, at a date yet to be agreed, to a 'house for duty' post at St John the Divine, East Chevington, Northumberland.
Prayers were said in the service for Wendy and her new parish, and during the party churchwarden Jane Fletcher presented Wendy with gift vouchers from the members and the PCC. A surprise visit was from Rose Thomas who brought a gift and greetings from Shine Forth Evangelistic Ministry who use our building on Saturdays and during the week and who had particularly appreciated Wendy's ministry.
Revd Sr Elizabeth Shearcroft, our new vicar, wrote in "OPEN DOOR": "31st July is officially Wendy's last working day in the parish and we celebrate with her at the 10:00am service and the party that follows it over lunch time. All of us would like to thank her for all she has done whilst in ministry at Immanuel, not least of all during the interregnum. Individuals, I am sure, will take the opportunity of conveying their personal greetings and best wishes as she moves to new pastures and new challenges. My personal thanks for her support and humour as I have begun to settle in here (it is never easy to see a new Senior in Post - however glad you are to be rid of the responsibility)! Our prayers and God's Blessing go with you Wendy."
